French Toast

Ingredients

  • 12 slices of bread (your choice of flavor or grain)
  • 6 eggs (if using homemade bread, add another egg or two)
  • 2/3 cup milk (optional)

Directions

  1. Break eggs into a flat bowl with edges (wider than the bread slices and deep enough to hold the liquids)
  2. Stir eggs briskly
  3. Pre-heat pan or skillet
  4. Add milk and stir briskly again (if avoiding milk, use 3 more eggs)
  5. Dip bread slice into egg mix to completely cover the bread (submerge if you can, otherwise flip the bread slice over to coat)
  6. Lift the wet bread slice (lift and support from under the bread or it will tear apart) and place onto hot pan or skillet
  7. Continue placing as many bread slices as will fit on your cooking surface
  8. After a minute or two, flip bread slices over to cook the other side
  9. After a minute or two, if the first side was not cooked enough flip again
  10. When both sides are cooked enough, serve
  11. If you run low on the egg mix, break more eggs in and stir again (adding a little more milk with the eggs if you use milk)
  12. If the egg mix ratio is right, you can pour the last dribbles of the egg mix onto the last bread while the first side is cooking

Optional

Add cinnamon to the egg mix to add flavor

Sprinkle a little ground pepper on the bread slices while the first side is cooking. This is how my mother prepared French Toast.

Spread peanut butter on the hot French Toast (it will soften and slightly melt) and add jam or jelly for a great treat.
