Makes about 2 loaves of bread

Not much is better than fresh baked bread.

Things You Need

  • KitchenAid® mixer
  • Working oven
  • 2 or more loaf pans
Amy's Bread

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1-2 T yeast
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup shortening or oil (Amy prefers butter flavored Crisco)
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 8 cups flour
  • 1 T salt

Directions

  1. These directions include a KitchenAid® mixer
  2. Mix yeast into warm water and let sit at least 10 minutes
  3. Add sugar and mix
  4. Add water and continue mixing
  5. Add flour and salt
  6. Let mixer blend for a bit
  7. Preheat oven to 350°
  8. Let the dough rise for a while
  9. Form into loaves and place into oiled loaf pans
  10. Bake for 35 minutes
  11. Turn out onto wire rack to cool (if you can keep your family away from the hot bread)

Optional

Blend part white flour with whole grain flour. If using whole grain flour, also add about 1/8 t of Cream of Tartar for each cup of whole grain flour.
