Home Fries

Serving for eight if as a side dish

Prep and Cooks in 20-30 minutes

Things You Need

  • Large frying pan preferably with cover
  • Cutting board and knife
  • Turner suitable for your cooking surface
  • Range or other heat source
Home Fries

Ingredients

  • 3 large or 6 small potatoes (Red preferred)
  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine (a little more than 1/2 stick)
  • 1 medium onion (optional)
  • 1 bell pepper (optional)

Seasonings (to taste)

  • 1/2 t black pepper
  • 1/4 t seasoning salt
  • 1/8 t garlic powder

Directions

  1. Melt butter in frypan
  2. Dice onions and bell pepper (should be about 1 cup of each)
  3. Slice, dice, or shred potatoes (should be about 4 cups)
  4. Sauté onions and bell peppers in melted butter
  5. When onions are translucent, add potatoes
  6. Sprinkle spices over potatoes (cover if you have the lid)
  7. Cook over medium to medium-high heat for 5 minutes
  8. Turn food over, there should be a little color
  9. Cook according to color
    • If not much color, cook another 5 minutes
    • If a good color, cook another 4 minutes
    • If already a bit dark, turn the heat down and cook another 3 minutes
  10. Turn food over again and check for color
    • If not much color, cook another 5 minutes
    • If a good color, cook another 3 minutes
    • If already a bit dark, remove from heat
  11. Continue cooking and turning until their done to your liking
  12. Serve while still hot (or at least very warm)

Optional

Use olive oil instead of butter

Serve on plate while hot and sprinkle with grated cheese.
