Coffee Cake


Serving for twelve

Prep 10 minutes, baking 25 to 30 minutes

Things You Need

  • 2 Mixing bowls
  • 9" square Pan or other baking dish
  • Oven to bake in
Coffee Cake

Ingredients: Cake

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 2 t baking powder
  • 1/2 t salt

Ingredients: Topping

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 T flour
  • 2 t cinnamon
  • 2 T melted butter (or margarine)
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°
  2. Grease and flour baking pan
  3. Mix the topping ingredients and set aside
  4. Blend sugar, shortening, and egg in a different bowl
  5. Gradually stir in the milk
  6. Sift together the rest of the cake ingredients and add them to the mix
  7. Pour the cake batter into the prepared pan
  8. Sprinkle the topping onto the batter
  9. Swirl some of the topping into the batter with a knife
  10. Baike for 25 to 30 minutes
  11. Serve warm or cold

Optional

Goes great with hot cocoa.
