Betty's Butter Mints

An old treat

Prep time 30 minutes plus an hour to cool and cut

Things You Need

  • Saucepan
  • Suitable stiring tool
  • Rimmed cookie sheet
  • Table
  • Scissors
Butter Mints

Ingredients

  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1/4 t salt
  • 3 T Karo light syrup
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 t mint

Directions

  1. Mix all but mint and boil until 270° or hard ball stage
  2. Pour quickly onto buttered rimmed cookie sheet
  3. Do not scrape pan into cookie sheet but do scrape onto buttered plate for kids
  4. When cool enough to touch add flavoring and stretch until it loses its shine
  5. Stretch onto table into long strips about 1/2" in diameter
  6. Cut quickly with floured scissors
  7. Let lie on table 1 hour, or till no longer sticky
  8. Put into tight bottle or Tupperware for 24 hours and until all gone

Optional

You can add other flavors and colors.
