Prep time 30 - 45 minutes

Things You Need

  • A big pot
  • Something long and sturdy to stir with
Red Mix

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Elbow macaroni (small elbow works best)
  • 3 to 4 lbs hot dogs (we use the Kirkland Beef Dinner Franks)
  • 2 lbs vegetables (we use 1 bag frozen broccoli and 1 bag frozen Mexican Style Vegetables and steam them)
  • 1 29 oz can Tomato Puree
  • 1 15 oz can pizza sauce
  • 1 10.75 oz can condensed Tomato soup
  • 1 14.5 oz can Stewed Tomatoes Italian (petite cut is best)
  • 1 3.8 oz can sliced Olives
  • 1 2.5 oz can chopped Olives
  • 1/2 lb cheese

Directions

  1. Boil and cook macaroni in 10 qt or larger pot
  2. Slice/chop hot dogs
  3. Prepare vegetables (best added when cooked and warm)
  4. Shred, slice, or cube cheese so it will melt easily
  5. Tip: As the macaroni is ready to drain, add the hot dog pieces to warm them up and melt out some of the fat
  6. Drain macaroni (and hot dogs) and return to pot
  7. If not already included, add the chopped or sliced hot dogs
  8. Add canned ingredients and mix and heat
  9. Add the cooked vegetables and mix
  10. Lastly, add the cheese (the cheese is the most likely to stick to the bottom of the pot as the ingredients are being heated)
  11. Mix well and serve

Optional

Any vegetables can work according to your likes. I enjoy having some corn mixed in which is part of the Mexican Style Vegetables.

Any pasta can work, but the larger the pasta the more likely it is to mash and loose shape.

We use the Kirkland hot dogs because we enjoy the smoked flavor.

As with most recipes, all ingredients are optional. This did not start with Pizza Sauce but when Amy tried it, there was a great improvement so that became part of the recipe.

NOTE: The picture shows how full the 10 qt pot is. There is just barely enough room to stir in the final ingredients into the mix in this size pot. This recipe does not fit in the 8 qt size pot. My 12 qt pot does leave plenty of room for stirring but seems just too big and stirring is not as easy. Be sure to use a long and sturdy utensil.
