Quick Spaghetti Sauce

A good fast choice

Prep time 10 minutes

Things You Need

  • Frypan to brown the meat and simmer the sauce
Spaghetti Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 can or jar (25 to 30 oz) of ready-made spaghetti sauce
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 can diced (or stewed) tomatoes Italian style

Directions

  1. If adding onions or celery, saute them first then add the ground beef to the same pan
  2. Brown the ground beef
  3. Stir in ready-made spaghetti sauce
  4. Stir in tomatoes
  5. Simmer for a few minutes or until the pasta is ready
  6. Serve (usually over spaghetti noodles or some other pasta)

Optional

I like to add the following:

  • Diced onions (fresh or dehydrated)
  • A pinch of oregano
  • 1/4 to 1/2 t freshly crumbled Italian Seasoning (roll it between your fingers to crumble)
  • 1 can sliced olives

Long and Slow Spaghetti Sauce

Worth the effort

Prep time 9 hours or more

Things You Need

  • Frypan to saute the vegetables and to brown the meat
  • Large pot or crock-pot (at least 6 qt, should be bigger)
Spaghetti Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 large can (about 28 oz) italian style tomatoes
  • 1 large can (about 29 oz) tomato sauce (or 2 15 oz cans)
  • 1 large can (about 12 oz) tomatoe paste
  • 1 large can (about 29 oz) tomato puree
  • 2 16 oz cans stewed tomatoes
  • 1 or 2 large onions
  • 1 or 2 large bell peppers
  • 4 to 6 stalks of celery
  • 1 pkg Sweet Italian Sausage (about 1 lb)
  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 to 1 1/2 t Italian seasoning
  • 1 t salt
  • 1/2 t garlic powder
  • 1/2 t oregano

Directions

  1. Stir all canned tomato products into large pot or crock-pot and begin cooking (be sure to crush the Italian tomatoes with your hand)
  2. Dice or chop onions, celery, and bell pepper
  3. Saute all vegetables until onions are clear
  4. Add cooked vegetable to pot and stir
  5. Peal and brown Italian sausage chopping it as it cooks
  6. Add cooked sausage to pot and stir
  7. Brown ground beef and crumble
  8. Add browned ground beef to pot and stir
  9. Measure out Italian seasoning and crush it between your fingers, allowing it to drop into pot
  10. Add the other spices and stir
  11. Everything should now be in the pot simmering
  12. Let it simmer for 6 to 8 hours, stirring now and then
  13. Serve over pasta

Optional

For a spicer version, use hot sausage instead of sweet.
