Hamburger Stroganoff

A family favorite

Prep time 20 - 30 minutes

Things You Need

  • Covered frypan
Hamburger Stroganoff

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup minced onions
  • 1/4 cup butter (or margarine)
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 T flour
  • 1/4 t pepper
  • 1 can of sliced mushrooms
  • 1 can of condensed Cream of Chicken soup (like Cambell's Soup)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • Egg noodles or rice

Directions

  1. Saute onion in butter (or margarine) over medium heat
  2. Add meat and brown
  3. Add flour, pepper, and mushrooms
  4. Cook 5 minutes
  5. Add soup and simmer uncovered 10 minutes
  6. Stir in sour cream and heat but do not boil
  7. Serve over noodles or rice

Optional

Goes well with steamed broccolli.


Our Family Version

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup minced onions (we use 1 T dehydrated minced onions)
  • If using fresh onions, 1/4 cup butter (or margarine)
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 T flour
  • Seasonings to taste including black pepper, garlic powder, seasoning salt, etc.
  • 1 can of condensed Cream of Mushroom soup (like Cambell's Soup)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • Egg noodles or rice

Directions

  1. If using fresh onions, saute onion in butter (or margarine) over medium heat; Otherwise skip this step
  2. Add meat and brown
  3. Add seasonings to meat as desired (including the dehydrated onions if using them)
  4. Add flour and stir
  5. Add soup and simmer uncovered 5 minutes
  6. Stir in sour cream and heat but do not boil
  7. Serve over noodles or rice

Optional

The original recipe mentioned we could skip the mushrooms and change the soup from Chicken to Mushroom so that's what we do. We also added the cream cheese.
